Woman Gets 5 Years for Money Laundering

The Suva High Court, sentenced a 32 year old former school teacher to 5 years imprisonment for money laundering.

Savita Singh had pleaded guilty to one count of money laundering contrary to section 69(2)(a) and 3(a) of the Proceeds of Crime Act 1997 as amended by Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Act 7 of 2005 and Proceeds of Crime (Amendment) Decree 61 of 2012.

She admitted laundering funds amounting to $2400 from the Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority (FRCA) in 2007.

Singh was given a non-parole period of twelve months.
