Fijian assistant referee Ravinesh Kumar who missed the opportunity to officiate in the World Cup in Brazil last year is back on track at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in Chile.
Kumar was selected to officiate in the World Cup in Brazil but could not make it after sustaining serious injury prior to the tournament.
He would have been the first Fijian referee to officiate in the FIFA World Cup.
The Nadroga-based schoolteacher said he is proud once again to carry the Fiji flag to the FIFA U17 World Cup.
Speaking to Fiji FA media from Chile, Kumar said he had fought hard to be where he is today.
“I was unfortunate not to take part in the FIFA World Cup in Brazil but I’m happy that I have once again given opportunity to be back and officiate in a major tournament,” he said.
“This is my seventh FIFA tournament and in which not only me but Fiji FA and Fiji Referees should be proud of. We have capable people in all aspects that can represent our country but we need to be dedicated towards our goal.
Apart from his theory and practical sessions Kumar also experienced an earthquake and a tornado in Chile last week.
“It was a small earthquake but we weretold that it was normal here and not to worry.
“Also I experienced what they say a small tornado during training. The tornado ripped the changing room roof off.Chile is a beautiful country, the climate is similar to New Zealand.
“I am trying my best to get a copy of the presentation on hand ball and offside which was explained to us by the FIFA instructors which I think is useful not only for referees but coachers as well.”
He said it was good to watch the video clips of the Fijian Under-20 team from the U20 World Cup.
Kumar officiated as an assistant referee in the match between Mali and Belgium.
