The Navosa Under-14 team will attract a lot of  attention in the Bongo 40th Fiji Primary Schools Football Association (FPSFA) Inter-District Championship in Labasa today.

This is the same team which played in the U12 competition last year.

This week they play in the U14 play-offs at the Guru Nanak Primary School grounds.

Team coach Rohitesh Naicker said his 20-member team was the one in the semifinals last year.

“Although the players come from a very small district, they have high hopes and strength to win,” Naicker said.

“We have faced many challenges travelling from Navosa to Labasa. Time factor was the biggest challenge. The players have been travelling since 11.45pm on Monday and reached Holy Family Primary School at 3pm for camping.

“Nevertheless, the players are focussed and motivated to play well. We thank all our supporters from the six schools in Navosa,” he said.

Team captain Marshall Kumar, who was awarded the best U12 player last year, said he was confident his team would qualify for the final.

“We are talented and will put all our skills and mind into this tournament to make our district proud,” Kumar said.

The team is in Pool Four with Labasa, Savusavu and Nasinu.

Their first match is against Nasinu at 11.20am today.
