Four Fijian athletes on Oceania Australia Foundation scholarships are doing well in the United States of America.

Younis Bese, Sisilia Seavula, Aaron Powell and Inia Sili are attending the South Western Community College in Creston, Iowa.

Bese, former student of Gospel High School, says more work needs to be done if she wants to be successful

“Totally enjoying school here, the students, teachers are friendly and the locals are very sociable,”Bese said.

How is it?

The Malaka, Vanuabalavu native said her first day in college was pretty much the same during her first day at school in Fiji.

“The only difference was I was in a foreign country and yes I really miss home.

“The local students and teachers are really friendly and they make us feel welcomed.

“Despite the days where the weather is too cold, it is always good to see the warm friendly smiles of teachers and students.

“I will be in SWCC (South-western Community College) for 2yrs and will be graduating in 2017 Spring Semester. I also hope to get a 4yrs full scholarship at a university in US.”

She also hopes that with the two years left for her to complete college education she aims to train more and better her performance.

“As always better my time in the 100metres and 200m and try and qualify in major international athletics competitions.

Meanwhile, fellow athlete Sisilia Seavula will try and do her best.

“It’s tough being away from home but it’s all worthy because in the end of the day it all comes down to my decision-making and how I will plan out my future so I am grateful and blessed to be here.”
