The Levuka Under-14 soccer team are the only new participant in the Bongo 40th Fiji Primary Schools Football Association Inter-District Championship.

The minnows, dressed in sky blue colour, won the Best Dressed Team Award at the opening of the tournament at Guru Nanak Primary School in Labasa yesterday.

Coach/manager Arvin Narayan said his 20 players were excited to travel to Labasa and participate in the tournament.

“Thanks to our sponsors Dhan Raj Chauhan Store, Ivan Bakery, Bumble Bee Sea Food Limited and Pacific Fishing Company Limited for helping us,” Narayan said.

“Levuka used to be one the best district teams in Fiji but after 2000, we faded off the radar.

“Our aim is to develop young players so that in few years time we can have our team to play in Fiji FACT and IDC.

“Unlike the other districts in the two main islands who gain most privilege of Fiji Football Association (FFAS) development programmes, Levuka is always in isolation,” he said.

“We want to revive soccer in our island and our participation in this IDC is just the beginning.

“We request FFA to consider organising some development programme for our players,” he said.
