Recipients of the small and micro-business $1000 grant yesterday reassured the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama that the assistance would be put to good use.

Speaking on behalf of the 531 grant recipients, Nalalawa Village headman Alifereti Waqa promised Prime Minster Voreqe Bainimarama that the grant “would not be wasted”.

“As small business owners, it was always our dream to at least have funds to grow and start our business,” he said.

“Sir, we will not disappoint you. We will ensure that we will play our part in using the funds well and contribute to growing the economy. This is timely and it’s a blessing for us small and micro-business owners. Our special thanks to the honourable Prime Minster for thinking of us.”

Mr Bainimarama distributed the grants at the Christian Mission Fellowship Church hall in Rakiraki.

Among the recipients was barber, Lalesh Prasad, 48, of Naria.

“I own a barber shop in town and I have been running it for about eight years. It has been a struggle, but with this grant, it has taken a big load off my shoulders,” he said.
