Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama will join the Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting (CHOGM) in Malta, Europe, next month.
A statement from the Prime Minister’s Office confirmed this yesterday saying the three-day meeting will take place from November 27.
Fiji Sun also received confirmation that the Minister for Foreign Affairs, Ratu Inoke Kubuabola, will attend the meeting in Malta.
The statement said the Commonwealth, in a lot of ways, could provide Fiji with opportunities to advance its development and economic interest.
It also said the Commonwealth would be embarking on a profiling exercise in selected Commonwealth countries located across the Caribbean, Africa and Asia Pacific to test the revised framework and assess individual countries vulnerability and resilience status in the context of governance to ensure that important elements were fully captured in the country assessment.
Fiji is among other countries selected for the profiling exercise in Asia Pacific region.
The theme for this year’s CHOGM is ‘The Commonwealth – Adding Global Value’.
From Malta the PM heads off to Paris, France, for the COP21 meeting on climate change. Mr Bainimarama will also attend a sugar meeting after the Paris summit.
