Suva will be aiming to pick a formidable team for the upcoming 2015 Chow Games next month from their Suva Zone meet which was held at the ANZ Stadium, yesterday.
Suva Zone One president Taito Weleilakeba said with competition coming in from western teams, they needed to step up their preparation.
“We have been truly blessed with the weather as it turned out really fine and sunny and that’s a bonus for us,” Weleilakeba said.
“This competition is school-based, the students are still competing for their schools but at the same time they are competing to be selected for the Suva team.
“There are a lot of challenges coming from Lautoka, Nadi, and Navosa so we are trying to set up a formidable Suva team to compete effectively.
“I hope to get the best team out of Suva, U9 has been promising, we hope to get an unbeatable team in next month.
“The talent has grown, we have seen a lot of kids who have potential and we will pick winners and those who show talents.
“The selection won’t be easy, but I know we won’t face any problems because of the teachers who have been here for a long time.
“They know what to do and how to pick the athletes which is a bonus for me. I trust them because they know what they are doing so I know that they will be picking the right students needed to compete.
“I am really thankful for the effort they have put in because this is all voluntarily and they take their time because I know they have Suva at heart.” he said.
The selectors are given till Monday to submit their entries for the Suva team.
