The 10 Rotary Clubs in Fiji have been performing fantastically well compared to the other seven South Pacific island countries, says Jeenie Herring.

The Rotary International governor of District 9920, which includes Fiji, part of Auckland, Cook Islands, Tonga, American Samoa, Samoa, Kiribati and French Polynesia, was applauding the members of Labasa Rotary Club on Wednesday evening at Hotel North Pole in Labasa.

She said her district, 9920, was the largest maritime district in the world.

“This is the first time I’m visiting Fiji and the purpose of my visit is to encourage clubs to increase their membership,” Mrs Herring said.

“Our club is all about giving back to the communities.”

Mrs Herring said the club carried out community programmes and undertook services where members get to meet the members of different communities and help them.

Mr Prasad said the club had 16 members and anyone who wanted to become a member can contact him.

Membership fee is $110. Labasa Rotary Club president Ami Kohli said the club was honoured to have Mrs Herring.

“We also celebrated our club’s 44th anniversary with her,” Mr Kohli said.

“It gives us a unique opportunity to share with her the projects we have in mind and how to implement them.

“It also gives us the chance to learn more of the bigger projects that Rotary is doing worldwide and how we can contribute in a small way to achieve the goal.

“It reinforces the sense of togetherness as part of rotary worldwide,” he said.
