Being one of the first in the world to see the dawn of a new day is one of the best experiences for American tourist couple, George and Carol Welsh.

The couple are passengers on board the Amsterdam cruise ship that visited the capital city yesterday.

George and Carol, who are on their first visit here said: “We want to move to your country, we love it.

“The coconut trees, white sand, twinkly, warm water, hammocks, sun, cocktails and an array of colourful fish popping by to say ‘hi’ to everyone, Fiji has got it all.”

The couple joined other tourists and got a taste of local food and entertainment at Colo-i-Suva Village.

The visitors were entertained, ate local food and the entire day was filled with songs, merry-making and laughter at the village.

The chairman of Colo-i-Suva Ecotourism, Usaia Tekuku, said the Sailada Tours, which began operation last year, had assisted the village in various projects.

“We have had a number of tourists visit our village and through their kind donations, we were able to build footpaths around the village and now we are planning to build a house specifically for tourists,” Mr Tekuku said.

“The committee is thankful to the village headman and also the villagers for their support in providing food and entertainment for the visitors.”

The Amsterdam left for Australia last night.
