The Attorney-General Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum says it’s critical for us all to embrace the theme of Moving Fiji Forward in our everyday life.

He said this was one of the themes of the TFL Miss Fiji Pageant.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum addressed contestants and guests during the crowning of Miss Fiji at Prince Charles Park in Nadi last night.

“Fiji has enormous potential and a very young population and when you have a very young population, you have a vibrant group of people who can move your country forward,” he said.

The A-G said while we have had our own history of trials and tribulations, we now have a new Constitution and under the current economic growth, and the way Government was moving the country forward, we should embrace that particular theme in our lives so that Fiji would be a fantastic place to live.

He thanked the Minister for Local Government Parveen Kumar for ensuring to have this particular theme in the pageant.

“This is the type of thinking that we all need to embrace everyday,” he said.

Mr Sayed-Khaiyum referred to the story of the bus driver who was given an award by Police when he apprehend a person who was abusing a little girl in a bus recently.

“This is the kind of reality we deal with, but because he was a concerned citizen, he did not know the girl or the man, but it was his responsibility as a Fijian citizen to make sure that the person who did wrong was caught. This, ladies and gentlemen, is moving Fiji forward, in the same way that we want people to think positive of our country.

“I always admire ladies who are able to showcase themselves in these types of pageants because I think we tend to forget it’s very difficult to walk up and down the stage and have thousands of people looking at you.”

He said the contestants had demonstrated their skills and talents through dance items, and their ability to speak in front of everybody during the past few days and they had done an amazing job.
