Teaching our younger generation on the importance of embracing and preserving our culture is imperative, said the Minister for Education, Mahendra Reddy.

He was speaking at the Culture and Arts celebration at St Joseph the Worker Primary School in Nakasi, Nasinu.

He encouraged students, parents and teachers to work together for the betterment of our country.

“We should all work together in building a knowledge-based society and we can do this through the vision that has been set by our Government which is proseperity for all Fijians,” Mr Reddy said.

Students from schools around Nasinu wore costumes and displayed art and craft to signify different culture and traditions.

Year 1 student, Samantha Paula was dressed in masi which was prepared by her mother.

“I love wearing masi because I do not have a chance to wear it every time,” Paula said.

“I am an iTaukei and my teacher and my parents have always taught me about the importance of keeping my language, our custom and my way of life,” she said.
