Dudley Intermediate students and teachers are going green.

Dudley Intermediate School students have been advised to respect their environment in order to be able to carry out the 3Rs programme perfectly.

BSP launched its Grow Green Campaign at the school last Friday to help rid the environment of rubbish.

Suva manager retail bank Mereani Peters, while launching the Reduce, Reuse and Recycle (3Rs), said there was a need for another ‘R’ which was to ‘Respect’ the environment.

“If you respect the environment, you will be able to carry out the 3R policy everyday and this is for the betterment of our environment,” Ms Peters said.

“Let’s respect our environment; put the rubbish where it belongs and keep our environment clean at all times.”

Ms Peters said the 3R programme would be part of the school every day and learning and instilling responsibility of always putting the rubbish in the bins was something that must become a habit from a young age.

“We can all lead by examples, as future leaders of tomorrow, you children should develop this healthy habit early in life which will remain with you for a lifetime.”

School head teacher Manjila Singh said the school had initiative for the programme where everyday wastes were separated such as dry leaves, plastic materials, food waste from each classroom rubbish bin. The school has also sealed off its incinerator in an effort to reduce, reuse and recycle the waste.

They have also made composts in the school and have pledged to be environment friendly.

“This initiative is to teach our students how to manage their environment and we want our students to be environment-friendly at all times,” Ms Singh said.

The school’s 40 prefects were at My Suva Picnic Park yesterday for a clean-up campaign.
