Government-funded schools will be audited starting next year to monitor grant usage.

This was revealed by the minister for Education, Mahendra Reddy.

He said 77 per cent of schools in Fiji used Government grants without proper authorisation as stated in the allocation guideline.

“This year the Ministry audited 128 schools, 29 per cent of schools did not have a separate account, 36.7 per cent of schools used money from one allocation to the other without any approval, 53 per cent had discrepancies of money used which has no account and 49 per cent did not provide three quotations as required,” Mr Reddy said.

“The ministry has now decided that it will audit schools from next year,” he said.
