‘Our notes and assignments were all burned in the fire; we’ll have to start all over again’

The University of the South Pacific students who lost all their belongings including their school books in assignments in the fire at Nailuva, Suva, last Saturday, are not sure of what
to do.

“We have no evidence and no proof of our finished assignments that would be due this Wednesday and we are not sure of what to do,” first-year Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering student Kishan Prasad said.

“If our lecturers don’t accept us in school because all our notes and assignments were burned in the fire, then we are going to have to start all over again but we cannot afford to do that now,” he said.

He said most of his friends were in their final year but with no evidence of their 1800 hours of practical work as it all got burned.

Kishan only has few school books but the important ones were lost in the fire.

“One of my friends lost everything from his clothes to school books and he is helpless.

“We are just praying that he gets accepted in school and carries on from where we left off and he lost his final year project; the very one that will determine his future,” he said.

The 32 students left Suva last Saturday afternoon and spent the rest of the weekend with their families in the West.

Kishan says they will all be back in Suva to look for flats within the Nasese area so that they are near the USP campus.

The 20 –year-old student said he would have to negotiate with his lecturers about his studies.
