Arya Receives Top Award
The Registrar of the University of Fiji Kamlesh Arya with his medal for the member of the order of Fiji.

Current Registrar of the University of Fiji Kamlesh Arya received an award in recognition of his many achievements.
Mr Arya was awarded the Officer of the Order of Fiji medal for renowned service to Fiji by the President of Fiji Ratu Epeli Nailatikau on Friday, October 16, in Suva at the Government house.
“I began my career in the civil service as a primary school teacher after graduating from Nasinu Teachers College in 1972,” he said.
“From 1975 to 1993 I spent my time in the education of children with disabilities.”
His passion for teaching children saw him being promoted as head teacher of Lautoka Crippled Children’s School in 1981 and resigned in 1993 after his posting to the Suva School for Intellectually Handicapped.
“I joined the Fiji Teachers Union in April of 1993 as full time industrial relations officer and assumed the position until 2001,” he said.
Mr Arya then joined Parliament as an elected member for the old Laucala Indian Communal Constituency on Fiji Labour Party ticket did not seek re-election in 2006.
“I have served the Arya Pratinidhi Sabha at national level and as national president from 1996 to 2009 and then from 2011 to 2012,” he said.
He then resigned to join the University of Fiji on December 2, 2012. Soon after this award, Mr Arya took up another challenge as elected president of the School Management Association of Fiji.
He said he hoped his leadership would steer the association in a new direction.
