Namara Students Learn About Parliament

The Civic Education and Media team of Parliament yesterday visited Namara Village School on Waya Lailai, Yasawa, as part of their ‘Parliament Bus’ community engagement programme.

Assembled underneath palm trees, the 70 primary and 14 kindergarten students waited eagerly for the team to educate them on the roles and functions of Parliament.

Head teacher Hirdesh Kumar said the school was lucky to have been chosen by the Parliament team.

“We are very fortunate to be chosen by your team to give us first-hand information about the role of Parliament,” he said.

“This information does not only benefit the students, but the teachers as well.

After the presentation, the teachers and students decided that they would also visit Parliament and see some of the equipment that were explained to them, such as the wig, the mace, etc.

The aim of the ‘Parliament Bus’ community engagement programme is to inform Fijians about the roles and functions, works of Parliament, and how Fijians can engage with Parliament.
