A Diwali with a difference will be hosted by a group of women at Natewa Bay, Cakaudrove, in Vanua Levu.

The group of more than 100 women will host their second Saqamoli Day at the Natewa village ground.

Natewa Soqosoqo Vakamarama chairperson Ulamila Vakalalabure is one of the women from  Fijian communities attending the Pacific Technical Experts and Ministerial consultation on strengthening climate change through reproductive, maternal, new born, child and adolescent health at the Sofitel Fiji Resort and Spa at Denarau.

“We will celebrate Diwali in style where we will raise funds for a safe house and a rest house for our women, which will be built in Savusavu,” she said.

“Most of the time our women, expecting mothers, and young mothers go to Savusavu because we don’t have a hospital, but we only have health centres.”

She said ideas gathered from the three-day event would be passed on to other women, particularly on how climate change played a role in their community setting concerning safe motherhood in the next five-year plan.
