Four students from Papua New Guinea (PNG) who studied in Fiji under the Fiji Tourism and Hospitality Scholarship were commended for successfully completing their studies.

Salome Ramosan, Sharon Lagar, Linda Torohin and Irish Phillips said they were honoured to be in the initial group of awardees and were privileged to have studied in Fiji. Three of the students graduated with a Certificate III in Cookery while one with a Certificate III in Bakery and Pastry.

Their certificates were awarded at a Fiji Day reception hosted by the Fijian High Commission in Port Moresby.

The Fijian Government offered the scholarships in 2013 as part of Fiji’s growing bilateral relationship with PNG.

They were offered to students to undertake placement studies in the fields of tourism and hospitality at the Fiji National University (FNU) in Nadi.

The graduates plan to return to the country and continue their studies at the Diploma level. They were grateful to the Fijian and PNG governments for making available the study opportunities.

The scholarship arrangement is currently under review, with the view to re-implementation in 2016.

It is a further demonstration of the continuing good relations between Fiji and PNG.  DEPTFO News
