Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordon yesterday commended the efforts our health officials during her tour of the Nadi Subdivisional Hospital.

Princess Sarah is a global advocate for maternal health and raises awareness on issues relating to new born, adolescents and mothers all over the world.

She is behind the global initiative ‘Every Woman, Every Child, Every Adolescent Everywhere’, which complements the framework of Sustainable Development Goals.

“I do global work, but at the end of the day I am a mother and that is the most important job I have,” Princess Sarah said.

“Mothers are gifts and absolutely essential in the lives of children, in their growth and development. What saves every mother is access to quality care, access to medical professionals and immediate life-saving commodities.”

She is urging men to support mothers, protect them and keep them healthy.

Dr Lisi Vaniqi highlighted that the Nadi Maternity Unit had achieved the highest Safe Motherhood audit of 83 per cent.

“The main contributing factor has been teamwork to ensure all mothers are well looked after right from the antenatal clinic up until they deliver and also post-natal clinic six weeks post-partum,” Dr Lisi said.
