South Pacific Stock Exchange’s 2015 Annual Report Competition noted marked improvement in annual reports submitted for the awards this year.

Committee chairperson of the Judges Panel, Renu Chand, said “It is encouraging to note entrants are seriously committed to providing greater disclosure and pushing the bar higher in terms of quality.”

Improvements have been noted in attention to detail and accuracy, responsiveness to stakeholders information needs and quality of presentation through use of graphics and innovative designs.

Ms Chand said of the 24 entrants, 20 had completed their audits within three months after their balance date.

She said this demonstrated entrants’ commitment to the capital markets, quality reporting and stakeholder demands.

This competition, launched in 1981, is organised annually by the SPSE in partnership with the Fijian Government.

The primary objective of the competition is to improve the standard of reporting and presentation of financial.

Moving to the next level

SPSE chief executive, Latileta Qoro, said the ideal question to pose now was how they can take the competition to the next level.

“There is scope to introduce if not refine the categories and awards offered and to extend the competition to regional participants,” she said.

“The Judges Panel this year has started moving in this direction with the introduction of two Special Awards.

The SPSE encourages all entities to enter the 2016 competition.
