Leading Fijian academic, writer and former politician, Satendra Nandan, will be sharing a deep message during the Swami Vivekananda College Alumni meet in Namaka this Saturday.

Ex-Scholars Association president Vineel Nand said many others are going to be honoured for their excellence in business and other sectors.

“Dr Satendra will share a message of how the school (SVHS) started near the bridge in Nadi Town in 1949, and how students used to swim across the river to go to school,” Mr Nand said.

Other former students include businessman Dalip Khatri, Nitin Hiral, Babu Chawda, Mahendra Tappoo, Dharmesh Motiram, Sumeet Tappoo, Mahendra Chaudhary, and Coke Games sprinter Tilesh Naidu who became the first Fijian athlete with Indo-Fijian origin to win back-to-back blue ribbon titles.

“We will have awards ceremony during the Diwali old scholars retreat in Nadi and requesting old scholars to send in their old pictures and share with us,” he said.

“We intend to create an environment where ex-scholars, teachers, families and friends will get a chance to get together, socialise, and enjoy to the fullest to bring back the memories of their school days.”

He added the entire event will be promoted in an aspect whereby all cultures, ethnic groups and individuals will actively participate.

“We would love to attract audiences from various ethnic groups and cultures thus bringing members of the community together.”
