A Year Three student of Kings Cross Primary School from Tana Island, Vanuatu, could not hide his excitement yesterday when he met Princess Sarah Zeid of Jordan in Suva.

Not only was he able to meet a Princess for the first time, John Isaac was also able to retell his story about his experience of Cyclone Pam to Princess Sarah.

John said: “I’ve always heard about her but today I’m able to meet and speak with her about what I as a student went through that time.”

He described his experience as scary and destructive.

He said he was in school when Cyclone Pam hit and it badly damaged it and it’s now getting repaired.

John, asked what he wanted to be when he grew up by Princess Sarah, he said he wanted to be an airplane pilot. Princess Sarah then wished John well in his endeavours.

Meanwhile, Princess Sarah also commended the staff at Nadi Hospital who she said she was privileged to have met during her visit to the hospital.

She was also overwhelmed with the Fijian culture and the complexities of what the approaching impacts of climate change had brought onto Pacific Islands nations.
