The biggest of the Fiji Business Excellence Awards is expected to be held tonight at the Sheraton Convention Centre on Denarau Island in Nadi.

The annual event is organised by the National Training and Productivity Centre of the Fiji National University and is designed to improve productivity and quality in organisations.

It aims to promote business excellence. This is by providing a Framework for Performance Excellence that is based on similar principles as found in other reputed international awards like the Baldrige Awards of the United States and the like.

Organisers says this year will witness the biggest and a different awards night with over 700 guests representing more than 60 organisations from the private and public sector.

Mr Prakash said this year saw the most number of applicants in the FBEA process together with increase in the number of Evaluators trained.

What’s happening

Some new this year at the awards will be live streaming of the entire event in partnership with Telecom Fiji through FNU ICT.

So those who are away or cannot make it to the event will be able to join the celebrations from wherever they may be from 6.30pm onwards.

NTPC director, Kamlesh Prakash, said they will also bid farewell to the President Ratu Epeli Nailatikau who has been officiating at the Fiji Business Excellence Awards (FBEA) Night for the past seven years.

“No matter what the background, industry or sector an organization operates in, one needs to understand innovation and the principles of quality management to survive in the future,” he said.

“The Fiji Business Excellence Awards Framework is designed to help organisations put in place robust management practices, processes and systems to achieve better results.”

The awards itself

The prestigious awards are presented to organisations that have met the highest standards of organisational excellence.

The President’s award is the highest level of award for Business Excellence in Fiji.

So far only five organisations have been recognised at the President’s Award level, and the first award at this level was presented in 2004.

The five President Award winners so far include Vodafone Fiji Ltd in 2004, 2007, 2010 and 2013; Sheraton Fiji Resort in 2005; DHL Express (Fiji) Ltd in 2011; Fiji Electricity Authority in 2012, and the Air Terminal Services in 2014.

Mr Prakash said organisations which have commenced the excellence journey continue to reap tremendous benefits for the framework.

“They play an important role in helping other organisation perform better in their respective operation,” he said.
