One of Suva City’s popular vegetarian restaurants is reducing its menu cost as part of Diwali celebrations.

While Fijians prepare for the Festival of Lights on November 11, Govinda’s Vegetarian Restaurant, in its Marks Street and Sports City, Suva outlets, has slashed the cost of its dishes to help share the spirit of Diwali.

Govinda’s is renowned for its vegetarian dishes and Indian sweets.

“We are already busy preparing for Diwali,” company director Raju Raniga said.

For the past 16 years Govinda’s has been among those in the forefront in making and selling sweets during Diwali.

“We have reduced the cost of dishes by two dollars as we share the Diwali spirit with our customers and the people of Fiji.

“There is an increase in demand for sweets and we have a wide range of varieties which people can choose from.

“We have varieties of barfi, motichur laddoo, peda, snacks, gulab jamun, rasgulla and other sweets which people can enjoy with their loved ones this Diwali.

“We are making hot jalebi packs, murku, meethapuri, khajipuri and masalapuri because these are the sweets which mostly people buy during Diwali.

“We have special packs which people can gift their family, friends, staff members or customers. The sweets are given during the time of Diwali for wishing our friends and family a prosperous and happy New Year,” Mr Raniga said.

He said Govinda’s joined Fijians in celebrating Diwali by reducing its food cost.

Diwali is an ancient Hindu festival celebrated in November annually around the world.

The festival spiritually signifies the victory of light over darkness.

“We wish everyone a Happy Diwali,” Mr Raniga said.
