PIDF Secretary-General, Minister For Foreign Affairs Discuss Future Of PIDF

The new Pacific Islands Development Forum secretary-general Francois Martel and Minister for Foreign Affairs Ratu Inoke Kubuabola yesterday met to discuss improved capacity building and expanded membership for the PIDF.

The capacity-building will involve the recruitment of senior team leaders by the end of the year and a larger membership for the PDIF will ease the financial responsibilities of the Fijian Government in the short to long-term.

Minister Kubuabola congratulated Mr Martel on his appointment and extended the Ministry’s offer of assistance to ensure his smooth transition into office.

Mr Martel informed Minister Kubuabola that the French government had extended an invitation to be a part of the France-Oceania Summit in the lead-up to the COP21 Summit in Paris. Minister Kubuabola also offered assistance for PIDF to pursue observer status at the United Nations General Assembly in New York.

Mr Martel also plans courtesy visits to the Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama and the Attorney-General and Minister for Finance Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum next week.
