Tahiti boxers won two of the three fights at the National Fitness Centre in Suva yesterday.

Coach Tauhiti Nena said it was a great show from all boxers.

“I brought in a young team to prepare for the 2017 Mini Games in Vanuatu and the 2019 Pacific Games in Tonga,”Nena said.

“I’m very proud of my boxers especially Tu’uhia Eddy. This is the first international fight for the 18-year-old.

“I know his opponent is a strong guy and they both gave a good fight,” Tauhiti said.

Winston Hill, the 2015 Pacific Games silver medallist, beat Tu’uhia Eddy in the 69 kg by technical knockout (TKO) in the third round.

Fiji coach Pauliasi Ratu was happy with the performance.

“We aim for a knockout towards the end,”Ratu said.

“The other two Fijian boxers were called in the last minute because we were relying on the Army and Police boxers.

“But unfortunately they were busy and I’m thankful for Tui Tikoisuva and Paula Ratumaikoro that they had the courage to come in and fight for Fiji.

“I wish they were training with us earlier and train Tahiti really gave a good fight and they were always fit so they did well,” Ratu said.

In the 75kg category, Tahiti’s Mai Heiarii won by TKO over Tikoisuva.

In the 81kg category, Jubely Torea won by unanimous points decision over Ratumaikoro.
