New applicant Reserve Bank of Fiji was one of the eight institutions that were recognised with the Fiji National University’s Fiji Business Excellence Prize at the Sheraton Fiji Resort on Saturday night.
Governor Barry Whiteside said: “It is a humble experience to be recognised in what we do, and for how we do it, we thank FNU for this award,”
He said with more than 200 staff at the Reserve Bank of Fiji, they play a critical role in Fiji.
“We have to be on the top of the day all the time.” Mr Whiteside added.
Reserve Bank had previously been recognised in various management excellence levels such as QBM, EBM and quality circles.
He added: “In fact excellence is one of our core values. Last year we saw the award and said we need to bench mark ourselves. To serve the people of Fiji to best ability we can.”
Fiji Electricity Authority
Fiji Electricity Authority was also recognised prior to their golden jubilee next year.
Chief executive officer Hasmukh Patel said the recognition was timely. He joined the company 36 year ago while it was a small organisation helping it grow into what is now.
“Our journey started some eight years ago and first statutory push was the establishment of a performance management system.
Mr Patel added that their 750 employees all are under the system.
“We have constituted in our whole organisations and have instituted the Balance Performance System with that we measure the entire performance and strength of FEA.
He added about 60 per cent of their staff are involved in the quality Circle programme.
“FEA has an important role to play in Fiji to energise the nation, obviously we thank the support from the government and from the board.”
