As the rugby season draws to a close, three South Pacific teams return home after battling it out at the International Defence Rugby Competition (IDRC) hosted by the British Army in the United Kingdom last month.

The Australian Defence Force (ADF) was pleased to transport the Australian Services Rugby Union men’s team, along with the Republic of Fiji Military Forces and His Majesty’s Armed Forces (Tonga) rugby teams, to the IDRC in the UK and back home.

“ADF logistical support to Fiji and Tonga is a practical demonstration of the closeness of Australia’s ties to its regional partners,” Australian High Commissioner to Fiji, Margaret Twomey, said.

“It was fantastic to see the camaraderie that developed during the tournament,” she said.

“It was also great that this competition could take place against the backdrop of the Rugby World Cup.”

The teams landed in Nadi yesterday, transported on an Australian Defence Force KC-30A Aircraft, to a very warm welcome, with the RFMF having secured a resounding win against the British Army in the final on Thursday.

The teams attended a welcome function hosted by the RFMF last night.
