Government MP, Ashneel Sudadhakar.
New Government Whip Ashneel Sudhakar attended his first business committee meeting yesterday and declared: “I feel great.”

Mr Sudhakar, 35, believed to be the youngest Whip on either side of the House, including the previous parliaments, said he was confident and ready to take on the challenges associated with the job.

He replaces Semi Koroilavesau who has been appointed Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations.

Mr Sudhakar said in Suva: “I am privileged to serve as the Government ’s new Whip for the ruling Fiji First Party which is the largest party in the Fijian parliament and I am also honoured that the Prime Minister has chosen me despite being one of the youngest members of the parliament.”

His appointment was confirmed last Friday.

“I have been appointed as the Government’s new Whip replacing Hon. Semi Koroilavesau who has taken up the role as Minister of Employment and I hope to reward the confidence that government has shown in me by doing more hard work,” he said.

He said it should be interesting as they had a good, vibrant team.

“My vast experience as a lawyer over the years will help me in my duties and I will have to divide time between my duties as Chairman of the Justice, Law and Human Rights committee and my role as Government  Whip, with the assistance of my party leaders as they are my role models and I hope that they will hand me the assistance I will need,” he said.

“I am ready to take this challenge with confidence and tranquility with an aim to perform the role bestowed upon me by the Government and to serve the Fijian people,” he said.

When asked if he would also fill Mr Koroilavesau’s seat in the Public Accounts Committee, he said  a decision on the matter was still to be made.

The parliamentary business committee which is made up of MPs from both sides of the House sets the Order Paper for the sittings. Yesterday’s meeting set the Order Paper for Friday’s sitting which features the 2016 Budget  presentation by the Minister for Finance, Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum.
