We Are Waiting For Commission: PM
Prime Minister at the Dawn Service yesterday.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama says FijiFirst is waiting to hear from the Electoral Commission about the names of candidates to fill two vacant parliamentary seats.

The seats were held by former Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations Jioji Konrote and backbencher Sanjit Patel.

Mr Konrote was nominated by Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama as the next President. Mr Patel resigned to look after his business.

Mr Bainimarama said that under the Constitution, the Electoral Commission was responsible for selecting the two candidates, not the party.

On the top of the FijiFirst list are media executive and veteran journalist Matai Akauola and school teacher Mohammed Mursalinul Abe Dean.

The chairman of the Electoral Commission, Chen Bunn Young, said yesterday they were still working on the names.
