Diwali is only few days away and Suva market vendors are already in celebration mood.

For some of the market vendors, living in a multi-racial country like Fiji, Diwali means unity as many Fijians join in celebrating the Festival of Light.

Suva market vendor, Ram Suresh has been selling fruits and vegetables for the last 44 years. He said every year he celebrates Diwali with other iTaukei market vendors.

“Our iTaukei brothers and sisters also celebrate Diwali with us and one week before Diwali we start celebrating,

“I always invite my iTaukei friends to my home and we celebrate Diwali.”  Mr Suresh said.

He said his iTaukei friends enjoy the festivity of Diwali as much as they do.

Another vendor, Ulina Ikaciri said: “I am already in the mood of Diwali and have been celebrating it with the other market vendors.”

She said that she receives sweets from her Indo-Fijian brothers and sisters during Diwali.

Ana Seni, who has been selling her handicraft in Suva market for last three months is happy about Diwali festival.

The Suva market vendors wished everyone a Happy Diwali and urged all Fijians to join in the festive mood.
