Fiji Airways Trolls Air NZ on Twitter

National carrier Fiji Airways got in on the highly publicised ‘Airline Wager’ between rivals Air New Zealand and Qantas on Twitter.

Air NZ and Qantas came through on a bet for the losing airline of the Rugby World Cup finalists. Air NZ gave Qantas pilots and cabin crew All Blacks rugby jerseys to wear on a flight following Australia’s loss to New Zealand in the final.

The wager and subsequent pictures was highly publicised on social media and news outlets overseas.

Not to be outdone, Fiji Airways quipped in to the exchange yesterday saying “ Well done Air New Zealand and Qantas. A trophy is great and all but we think gold is far more .. precious”.

The tweet was accompanied by a picture of National 7s players Osea Kolinisau and Jerry Tuwai, a clear reference to the upcoming Rio Olympics where 7s Rugby will be played for the first time.

Fiji is the favourite for a gold medal in the 7s competition as the world’s top ranked 7s side.

The tweet was also a jab at Air New Zealand’s association with the ‘Lord of the Rings’ and ‘The Hobbit’ movie franchises.

The three airlines are sponsors of rugby for their respective countries.
