Vodafone Fijian 7s coach Ben Ryan has expressed his concern on 7s hitman Semi Kunatani.
Kunatani is playing in Toulouse, France.
“Semi is playing in their academy at the moment and for whatever reason they are trying him as a winger. For me, his long term future is in the forwards and he will be a world class blindside flanker,” Ryan said.
“So, probably speaking out, I think Toulouse should stop thinking about playing him in the wing and chuck him into the backrow and he can get stuck into playing rugby.”
Kunatani who was nominated for the World Rugby 7s Player of the Year Award last season signed his contract following the Glasgow 7s in May.

Ryan wants Kunatani to adjust
“Unfortunately as the Top 14 player in the club, he is probably frustrated when he is hearing all the news back home about the boys going to Dubai.
“Semi is not going to be selected in these tournaments.
“I want him to try and settle in. I’d like Toulouse to start selecting him and so that he can start playing for them and show France how good a player is.
“But it’s unfortunate that he had to go through this.
“I hope that they understand that not every Fijians that goes to France is a winger and they can start to play in other positions as well.
“He is an intelligent footballer, give him a chance to play in the backrow.”

Ryan advice to Kunatani
“I spoke to Semi (yesterday morning) and told him you got to your extras and do your training. Knock on your coach’s door, tell him to start thinking about you, talking more in training.”

Ryan hopes Kunatani flourish
“They have a world class player in their squad, they probably don’t realise what he is capable to do.
“We Fijian fans here at home and abroad we want our players to go to France to do well and not sit on the bench and play academy staff. I don’t know when we will see Semi in the sevens ranks because I do want him to play and flourish in France,” he said.
