Levuka trio attend trials

Richard Peter, Laikini Nativi and Joe Idu have set a target to grow soccer in Levuka.
This was after they were selected to attend Fiji Football Under-14 national trials in Suva yesterday.
Peter, Nativi and Idu are the first players from Levuka to be selected to attend the trials.
It was a double treat for the 14-year olds as they were scouted during the Bongo 40th Fiji Primary School Inter-District Championship last month which was the first time Levuka took part.
Levuka coach Arvin Narayan said the fact that three boys have caught the attention of U14 national team coach Saroj Kumar was a huge achievement.
“Having our boys selected is really an achievement for us because it shows that we are doing something right,” Narayan said.
“Soccer in Levuka is not really growing but there is the urge to revive the sport in Levuka and I believe that having these three talented young boys selected to trial for the national team is big step for us in the right direction.
“It was the first time in 40 years that we took part in the IDC and now this; we are just so excited and happy to get the sport to be popular at home.”
Nativi said he was shocked to find out that he was selected.
“We were surprised because we did not think that we would ever get picked. I love soccer and I want to play more back home.” he said.
Narayan thanked the support of the parents and businesses, especially Pacific Fishing Company and Bumble Bee Seafood Limited for their continued support.
