Fijibatt troops were awarded the General Service Medal last Friday for completing six months of peacekeeping duties with both UNDOF and UNIFIL.
The troops had served six months with the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF) and another six months with the United Nations Interim Force in Lebanon (UNIFIL) under the leadership of their commanding officer Major Atunaisa Vakatale.
Republic of Fiji Military Forces Land Force Commander Colonel Sitiveni Qiliho commended the medal recipients for successfully completing their peacekeeping mission, especially that most of them were very young soldiers and were first-timers.
“I am grateful in presenting the awards since most of you are very young soldiers experiencing overseas deployment for the first time,” he said.
Colonel Qiliho said it was also encouraging to note that they successfully completed their tour of duty under the leadership of a young officer as their commanding officer.
A church service was held after the welcoming parade.
