Amal Singh Wins Top Award

Amal Singh scooped up the top award for the Drag Wars winning the Class C 14 seconds category at Nanuku Airstrip in Pacific Harbour, yesterday.
The 33-year-old from Nadera drives a Toyota MR2 has successfully retained his title in the category but said competition keeps getting tougher.
“It was a great day and winning again means a lot. But I’ve to say that the competition is getting tougher every year, especially in my category,” Singh said.
“I have been racing since 2006 and my love for this sport has not changed one bit because I love speed and I am just really happy to have won again.”
With the success of the second Drag Wars competition, the Fiji Car Club is looking to attract western members to the sport.
FCC president Raizal Haniff said they were looking to get the westerners interested in Drag Racing starting with a car show this Saturday at Namaka Public School from 3pm to 8pm.
“It has been a very successful year as far as FCC is concerned,”Hanniff said.
“We had to postpone three races because of the weather but we pulled through.
“We are trying to expand and taking car show to the west.
“We want to promote drag racing in the west to be part of FCC. The FCC is not for those in and around the capital but for the whole of Fiji.
This is the first time the FCC has had two Drag Wars in one year but Haniff said they were looking to hold more next year.
“We had around 400 spectators which is average for us who turned up to watch the race and it’s really good to see the interest is there. But we have the dream of growing the sport even more.”
