We are where we are today because of a lot of hard work.

The comment made by Tropik Wood Industries Limited executive chairman, Faiz Khan. This follows after the company scooped the 2015 Westpac Prime Minister’s Exporter of the Year Award on Saturday night.

Mr Khan said they were modest of what they have achieved which has been a result of hard work across the business.

“First and for most we are humble, honoured and happy of the achievement,” he said.

He added in order for the company to improve, they just had to look for gaps from within and close up the gaps to make sure the company was restructured.

Mr Khan acknowledged his followers who have helped to fight the hardships and win their success.

“There are many people I would like to thank. Without them this wouldn’t have been possible. I would like to thank the land owners who are key stakeholders and Ratu Pio Bolobolo for their support.

“I would also want to thank our workers, a good group of people. We have a good team and they do not know what eight to five means. They have a simple philosophy of whatever it takes to get it done. So I am really thankful to them,” he said.

He also acknowledged the FijiFirst Government for supporting the industry.

Challenges

Despite the $65 million inherited  Vat Tropik Woods Industries Limited had  to pay over the past four years it remained successful.

Looking back, Mr Khan said they had no idea on how they would pay their Vat and what their future would be like.

But because of the hardworking crew they had, the company was successful at the end.

“Our backs were against the wall without really knowing how and what the future held for us. We were very determined to make sure that the company did not fall on our watch. We are where we are today because of a lot of hard work,” Mr Khan said.

Message to the other entrents

Mr Khan said: “The competitors who did not win, there is always a second chance and I wish you better luck next time. There will be winners and losers.

“However in the interest of nationhood it would be good if we get inspired by each other’s successes and achievements.

“As a general message I would like to say businesses should look forward to getting good people to work for them and looking after their people.”
