The Class E Open Ladies winner in the Drag Wars, Sandiya Naidu is urging more women to be members of the Fiji Car Club.

The 34-year-old, who took part in the Drag Wars held at Nanuku Airstrip in Pacific Harbour yesterday, hopes more women will take up the thrilling sport.

“I love this sport, this is my first time driving in the Drag Wars and I am just so thrilled that I have won. “There is hardly any women who come to the races but I urge them to come out and try it because once they start they won’t want to stop,” Naidu said.

“I love the excitement and the adrenaline rush you feel when you going really fast and with more women joining they could really boost this sport because it is not only for men.”

Naidu, who got into Drag racing from her husband, said she did not expect to be addicted to drag racing.

“I started in the quarter-mile drag race early this year and ever since then I’ve been looking forward to every race. “It also helps to have a supportive husband who also enjoys the same thing as me, so that is an added boost for me.

“I never thought I would see myself taking part in Drag Wars or the Quartermile Races, it is really fun and just adds so much excitement to my life.

“I really hope Fiji Car Club can attract more women to the sport.

“You see the men having a lot of competition among each other and that is something that we should have amongst the women.”

The next and final Drag race of the year will be held on November 22.
