Diwali Special Day For Special Children

Students of the Labasa School for the Handicapped smiled continuously during the school’s Diwali celebration at Labasa on Monday.
The children couldn’t contain their excitement while participating in lighting of candles, sharing of sweets and taking part in religious prayers.
School head teacher Mukesh Chand said celebrating Diwali with special children with special needs was an important stage that helped in child development.
“Students and teachers came together for the occasion with the single goal; taking out the negativity in their lives and hoping for a better future later in their lives,” he said.
“Basically we participate in all religious festivity as we help these students to understand that Fiji is a multicultural society and that it is important to have a balanced point of view in regards to different cultures.
“This leads to a more harmonious society without religious barriers.”
