Two former British Army soldiers were among ex-servicemen who gathered at the War Memorial site in Nasese, Suva to remember the lives of their fallen comrades.
Joeli Leqa joined the British Army in 2000 for five years while Joni Waqa joined in 2007 for 12 years.
Mr Leqa had served in Bosnia and Northern Ireland and Mr Waqa served in Iraq and Afghanistan during their years of service.
Mr Waqa said the day was an important date on their calendar because it was a day soldiers and ex- servicemen paid tribute to their comrades who have died before them in peacekeeping duties and in battlefields.
“These are unsung heroes. We always tend to forget them but this day is so special that we also get to acknowledge their families who are here,” he said.
Mr Leqa is currently supporting and assisting the British Legion here in Fiji.
He said yesterday’s Remembrance Day was quite significant because it was also the first time he was part of the commemoration while in Fiji.
“It is important for us to come out and give them the respect they deserve in ensuring that we live the life that we are living now,” he said.
Minister for Immigration, Defense and National Security Timoci Natuva said the Remembrance Day was an important part of teaching the young generation of the sacrifices made by these fallen soldiers.”
