Ana Roqica is confident Telecom Fijiana 7s team will qualify for the 2016 Rio Olympics this weekend.

The team will need to win the Oceania 7s Olympic qualifier in Auckland to join the Vodafone Fijian 7s team Vodafone Fijian   U23 football team and golfer Vijay Singh.

Roqica admitted they need to start well against Cook Islands on Saturday.

“Our first match is against the Cooks (Islands) and they have some New Zealand-based players and we can’t underestimate them,” she said.

“We play them during the 2015 Pacific Games in July but this is a different ball game.

“We are all focused and the girls have been working very hard in the last four weeks. I’m confident we will qualify on Sunday,” she said.

Fijiana takes on Cook Islands at 12.58pm (Fiji), Tonga at 3.34pm and Samoa at 6.10pm at theTrust Arena, Waitakere City, Auckland on Saturday.

On Sunday they play PNG at 10.22am before the Cup quarterfinals starts.

Oceania Rugby general manager, Will Glenwright, said, “We very much thank the New Zealand Rugby and Auckland Rugby Union for hosting this year’s all important Oceania Sevens Championship.”

“After such a successful World Cup in the United Kingdom the rugby world now switches its attention to the sevens rugby tournament at the Olympic Games in 2016. Oceania has a rich heritage in sevens and this exciting tournament will determine who goes forward to Rio and the final stages of qualifiying.”

The teams that finish second and third in both tournaments will have a second chance to qualify for Rio de Janeiro as they will qualify for the World Rugby final qualifying tournament that is expected to be played in June 2016.
