Lifting the level of discipline in the Fiji Police Force is task number one for Acting Commissioner of Police, Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho.

The Acting Commissioner and former Republic of Fiji Military Forces Land Force Commander was promoted to Brigadier-General  yesterday. He succeeds Ben Groenewald of South Africa, who resigned as Commissioner this week because of family and personal reasons.

Brigadier-General Qiliho said he was aware that discipline in the force was low and he had a task to raise it to a good level.

“The task is difficult but it has to be done,” he said.

“If heads need to roll, they will have to. Police officers will need to fall in or fall out.”

Brigadier-General Qiliho has met Deputy Police Commissioner Isikeli Ligairi, and Force Inspector General Isikeli Vuniwaqa and reminded them he was now answerable to the public on all Police activities and they were answerable to him.

He was concerned especially about the rise in child sexual abuse, rape and sexual assault cases.

He has asked DPC Ligairi, and Force Inspector General Vuniwaqa to prepare a report and statistics on these criminal acts, and their plans to address them.

This is to be presented to him on Tuesday in his new office at the Police Headquarters, Centrepoint, Laucala Beach. On Monday Brigadier-General Qiliho will meet his predecessor, Mr Groenewald, who will officially hand over to him.

Brigadier-General Qiliho still had some work to clear at the RFMF and will hand over his Military role to the new Acting Land Force Commander, Lieutenant-Colonel Sapenasa Motufaga.
