Success For Koroilavesau In Geneva

The Government has achieved its goal following its meeting with the International Labour Organisation (ILO) in Geneva, says Minister for Employment, Productivity and Industrial Relations, Semi Koroilavesau.
He said Government had mandated that they discussed with the ILO to review the decision of sending a Commission of Inquiry team to Fiji.
He said the ILO has now decided to send a review team to review the ongoing obstacles to a joint report between Government, trade unions and employers.
“They will also advise on the discussions and report back to the ILO by March next year before deciding on whether to send a Commission of Inquiry into Fiji or not,” Mr Koroilavesau said.
“We have achieved what we wanted. We came to lobby for them to not initiate the inquiry and we have achieved it to hold on until March.”
In a press statement yesterday, the Fiji Trades Union Congress (FTUC) general secretary Felix Anthony welcomed the decision by the ILO and further stated that they recognised the efforts of Mr Koroilavesau.
He also looked forward to working with the Minister and the Fiji Commerce and Employers Federation (FCEF).
