The Sydney Fijian Friends of Fiji Association in conjunction with Sydney Fijian Music Association and Fiji Curry Hut raised more than AU$6000 (FJ$9000) for the Treasure House Christian Children’s Home in Nadi.
More than 150 Fijians living in Australia gathered at the Padstow Bowling Club in Sydney in support of this worthy cause last Saturday.
A cheque was handed to Treasure House Christian Children’s Home director Ulamila Cakau by Jason Narayan, the event organiser and owner of Fiji Curry Hut.
According to its official website, Treasure House is a home for underprivileged children which was established in 2000 by some American missionaries in Ba and was passed on to local administrators based in Nadi.
The Treasure House was relocated to Nadi in November 2007 .
Treasure House is faith-based and supported closely by other churches in Fiji and overseas and other partners in the community.
There are currently 29 children being taken care of at the home. They range from infants to 16 year olds.
Their basic necessities are taken care off through the donations of churches and communities in Fiji and overseas.
Organisations with the support of Fijians in Sydney continue to provide support through various fundraising opportunities towards charities in Fiji.
