To win we need mental frameworks – be smart, fearless and willing to learn from mistakes.

These were the comments of the Minister for Health, Jone Usamate, while officiating at the Process Mapping Training workshop at Fiji Revenue and Customs Authority complex in Suva yesterday.

“Many times, what holds us back is the belief that we cannot challenge the giants of this world,” Mr Usamate said.

“But someone is always going to be bigger and stronger than you – to win we need new mental frameworks- be smart, fearless and willing to learn from mistakes.”

The workshop discussed raising awareness on how to map processes, analyse it and ways to improve them.

“We need this revolution in the public and private sector, not just in the boardroom but also at the shop floor, we need it at every level of Government, business and education.

“We must believe that we can use the Principles of Excellence to deliver the best quality of life to our people and that we are not going to abandon those principles at the slightest hints of trouble,” he said.

Mr Usamate told participants to change the way of doing business to the kind that is embodied in the Principles of Excellence.

“We all have our giants that we face – in a world where we have climate change and in health we have tsunamis of NCD’s (non-communicable diseases).

“We need a revolution in this country, one in which our commitment to excellence must grow in business and government in all parts of Fiji.”
