Elizabeth Maki was satisfied with her first show at the Young Men Christian Association hall in Suva last night.
The lone female participant in the Bodybuilding and Fitness Fiji (BFF) annual event believes participating in the sport helps her maintain her fitness.
“I always want to stay fit and for me taking fitness to a totally different level in a specialised sport like bodybuilding is a challenge,” Maki said.
“It mentally challenges me in areas like diet but I enjoyed that since I’m surrounded with friends who motivate me to do my best.”
The Naitasiri native was a little bit nervous during her first show but was able to complete her five poses.
“I was getting a little bit of cramps which made me nervous but I had a lot of supporters who assisted me to finish well,” she said.
“My aim now is to continue with the sport and maintain my fitness,” she said.
BFF president John Lee was impressed with the bodybuilders who took part last night and he is anticipating an entertaining final tonight.
“We saw some new bodybuilders and we also have some that competed at the Pacific Games and they are all in good shape,”Lee said.
“The finals should be fun because they will be posing with their favourite music and so we will be looking forward to it.”
The BFF event final will be held at the Civic Auditorium today from 6pm-10pm.
For the first time ever, BFF is hosting a qualifier event to an Interna tional Federation for Bodybuilding and Fitness (IFBB) event, the Gold Coast Amateur Olympia sponsored by Joe Weider later this month.
“There are six IFBB Pro cards up for grabs at this event and we’re hoping that winners from 2015 Mr & Ms Fiji could potentially compete and win an IFBB Pro-Card,” Lee said.
“We’re grateful to our sponsors namely Quality Print, Paradise Beverages, Zar Fitness, Sahu Khan Dental Surgery, Moss Family, Super Drugs, Mana Graphix, Autoworld Trading Fiji and Tappoo Health Living for their continued generous support towards our sport. “
