PM To Kepa: I’m Chairperson
Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama.

Prime Minister Voreqe Bainimarama has told the Leader of Opposition, Ro Teimumu Kepa: “I’m the chair of the Constitutional Offices Commission. Who is she to call the meeting?”
He was reacting to a statement from the Leader of the Opposition calling for a meeting of the Constitutional Offices Commission to examine its standards of conduct and to ensure that it was following proper procedures.
Ro Teimumu said in the statement that her call came in the wake of the former Police Commissioner Ben Groenewald’s unexpected resignation.
She said that instead of supporting the Police Commissioner, an independent constitutional officer, the Prime Minister and the Attorney-General had worked actively to undermine him. In reaction to this the Prime Minister said the Leader of the Opposition should read her Constitution and someone to clearly interpret it to her.
He said the appointment of Brigadier-General Sitiveni Qiliho as Acting Police Commissioner was constitutional.
Meanwhile Brigadier-General Qiliho told the Fiji Sun yesterday that after meeting with the former Police Commissioner Mr Groenewald on Monday, he would release a statement to clarify the claim that he had resigned because of military interference.
In his letter of resignation, Mr Groenewald said he wanted an early release from his contractual appointment as the Commissioner of the Fiji Police Force with effect from Tuesday, November 10, 2015 for personal and family reasons.
There was nothing on military interference.
Yesterday Brigadier-General Qiliho in his capacity as Acting Commissioner of Police attended the funeral of a Police officer who was a victim of a car accident at Ciriwai, Lomawai in Nadi on Thursday.
As of yesterday Brigadier-General Qiliho was still in military uniform but he had given assurance that he would have his Police uniform next week as his measurements had already been taken.
