Rodney Fong’s Strong Passion For Bikes

Rodney Fong is someone we can say who truly loves his bike. This man has been riding for decades and knows a lot about this machine.
One can call him a crazy fan for bikes but for a man who has been riding all these years, this just might be his passion.
Sun Wheels caught up with Mr Fong at the Land Transport Authority’s ‘Ride for Safety’ event at their headquarters in Nasinu the past weekend.
Mr Fong owns a Kawasaki zx 9r ninja and was among those bikers who rode with the Minister for Industry, Trade and Tourism, Faiyaz Siddiq Koya, to the event.
He described the feeling of riding a bike to be a lot different from driving and strongly believes bikers also have the rights to use the road.
He said: “Riding a motor cycle is very different to driving a car and a lot of motorists don’t realise just how different it is. It’s a sensory perception thing.
“You got to feel what your using your hands, eyes, feet and everything and I think a lot of motorists just don’t realise this.”
He added even though motor bikes are quite fast, it all depends on the person riding it and has always been a person advising safety as a number one rule.
Passion
For Mr Fong, his love for bikes comes with a lot of time and devotion for this fast machine and believes everyone will find bikes attractive or fascinating.
“Some people would say that motorcycle is a bit of a breaking and I think most men have that interest but not all of us have the opportunity to actually ride it,” he said.
“Even most females wouldn’t mind riding it!”
Look out for bikers
Mr Fong has always been an advocate for bikers and this is what he had to say to all road users.
“If I have to send a message out there it would be for people to open their eyes and see and know that we are on the road too,” he said.
“And to the motorcyclists, I say ride responsibly, ride with care, you got to think ahead and know that cars and taxis can pull out and do u-turns, cows and horses can cross the roads or even pedestrians.
“These things happen but the awareness messages are fantastic so hats off to LTA for advocating road safety.”
Representation
Mr Fong said Mr Koya is expected to bring a group of riders from the West.
They are expecting around 40 plus bikers to be present.
“This is historic and we have never sat together and done this to look into each other’s issues,” he said.
