Girl Guides Launch Badge Curriculum

The Fiji Girl Guides Association launched their ‘Voices Against Violence’ badge curriculum at Ratu Sukuna Park in Suva yesterday.
Association project co-ordinator Ditainivanuavou Bolabasaga said: “The aim of this curriculum is for young girls to know and understand their rights and raise their voices against violence.”
She said the badge curriculum would be implemented in all primary schools in Fiji next year where, girls will learn how to speak out against violence.
Currently, it has already been implemented in nine primary schools in Fiji.
The badge curriculum was developed by World Association Girl Guide and Girl Scouts in partnership with United Nations Women (UN).
The curriculum has been launched in 20 other countries that are members of World Association Girl Guide.
Ms Bolabasaga said they had to launch this programme to create awareness and let public and parents know the importance of girls raising their voices against violence they are facing in the community.
Meanwhile, Minister for Education yesterday confirmed that the ministry was looking at upskilling primary students by adapting some facets of the Girl Guides badge curriculum.
And Ms Bolabasaga has thanked the UN Women, Medical Services Pacific, Fiji Women Crisis Centre and the Ministry for Education for their support.
